On Senter

Not too long ago a prophet told us to draw the net again that we would have a catch because it was a new time. We have been witnessing to those who come into the office and have found that there is a new openness to the Gospel. We are finding that a good number of people are responding positively to an invitation to receive Christ. We have some who reject or want to wait until later. I am convinced that now is the time for us to renew our witnessing efforts and that we will in due time see many come into our church. We need to prepare for the harvest.

In the next couple of months we will begin to upgrade some of our equipment and renovate some more of our rooms to prepare for the influx of people. In the meantime we are also praying for laborers for the harvest. People who know how to minister to people of all ages and cultures are needed. We will have the opportunity to train some of these workers ad some will come already trained.

I am grateful for a congregation who expresses love and acceptance to those who come and visit with us. We are God’s visible instruments of love to all who come in contact with our congregation. Thank you for being so loving and responsive to a diverse group of people. Not everyone will respond as we would want, and some will try to take advantage of us, but we must not be offended. We must be sensitive to the prompting of the Holy Spirit and deal with each one with understanding and patience.

Our job here is not to build a church, but to build people or to make disciples. God will will build the church. I know that we are too small for what God wants us to do and I am expecting to see an increase in the coming days. We have prayed for years that God would bless our church in such a way that only He would get the credit for it. I believe that this time is near. We must be careful to give Him the praise for all that he is doing. Great is His Faithfulness!

ON SENTER

Our church is in transition.  Jesus has told us to go to the other side.  Remember the feeding of the five thousand as recorded by Mark?  After dismissing the multitude, Jesus put the disciples into a boat and told them to go to the other side.

They tried to obey but a storm came up and even though they rowed hard against the wind they did not get very far.  In the middle of the night and in the middle of the storm, they see Jesus walking on the water.  They are afraid and cry out with fear.  Jesus speaks and assures them that It is He and not a ghost.  Peter responds by asking to come to Jesus on the water.  Jesus gives him permission and Peter starts.  He becomes fearful and begins to sink.  Jesus rescues him, ends the storm and gets the boat, disciples and all to the other side.

God wants us to develop a healing ministry, a prophetic culture, and provide an atmosphere that encourages the operation of the spiritual gifts.  We have made a start, but haven’t made it very far.

We, like the disciples (seasoned sailors/fishermen) are more comfortable fighting the storm in the boat.  We have methods we have used in the past that have gotten us through.  But like Peter, we need to get out of the comfort of the boat to be with Jesus.   Without Him we can do nothing; with Him all things are possible.

We can’t rely on past successes or familiar methods or even familiar prayers.  God is calling us to new areas and methods of service and ministry.  It is unknown water for us and we must seek His presence, His instruction and His help.

Let us be attentive and obedient as He says to us, “Come heal the sick,” “ prophesy,”” give a word of knowledge” or whatever else He may tell us to do.  It is time for us to get out of the boat.

EVERGREEN CLIPPINGS

March – April 2010 Evergreen is Ministering Jesus told us as His disciples to go into all the world and preach the good news.  There are many ways to do that and folks in Evergreen are being faithful to the tasks. Giving is an expression of God’s loving provision and Evergreen people have always been very generous.  From offerings for Gideons to shoes for Haiti, buckets of Hope, Christmas Boxes, and sponsoring short term missionaries (Aaron, Rick, Linda and Richard); evergreen people just keep on giving and giving cheerfully. Giving is not all that we do.  There are people who are involved in CSM, Prison Ministry, Intercessory Prayer groups, shut-in visitation, children’s ministry, praying for the sick, witnessing to people in the market places and counseling or encouraging families and individuals.  The list goes on and is as varied as is our members. God has certainly blessed our church and is using us to be a blessing to others.  I believe that our being used by God will increase and become more effective.  God is already pouring out His Spirit in this area and good things are happening.  I am glad that Evergreen is poised to be right in the middle of the action. The natural and necessary response to what God is doing is worship.  We are praying that God will pour out His Spirit of worship on our congregation and that each one of us will become more passionate in our individual worship.  Worship is a necessary life-style if we are to carry out the commission of our Lord.  With praise and thanksgiving we enter His presence and tune our hearts to hear what He says.  When we hear, we know what we are to do.  As we make ourselves available, He provides the power.  We hear and obey, He does the work and we rejoice in His goodness.  Keep up the good work!                                                                                  Bro.  Joe
